If you are interested in adding one of our puppies to your home, please fill out our application below. This helps us get to know you and what you're looking for. Submitting this application is not a contract, nor is it a guarantee of obtaining a puppy. As our obligation is to our dogs first and foremost, we reserve the right to refuse a buyer if we feel that they are not the perfect fit for one of our puppies. We very much appreciate your interest in our dogs and thank you for taking the time to fill out our application. Once received, we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
About Our Puppies
Starting from day one, our puppies are checked over, handled, and doted on. We have a very hands on approach and provide these precious babies with the utmost care. Healthy puppies start with a healthy mother. Our mothers are kept up to date on dewormings and vaccinations and are fed a high quality kibble diet with some additional raw feeding. After the puppies arrive, we make sure they get plenty of colostrum from their mother which will provide crucial antibodies and passive immunity to protect them over the first couple months of life. While in our care they are kept in the cleanest environment possible. Dewormings start at two weeks old and continue every two weeks up until they are able to leave for their new homes. As ears and eyes start opening, we expose them to different things such as toys and sounds. We hope to have them well adjusted and used to many different things and noises by the time they are weaned and heading off to their new homes. As puppies start the weaning process, we introduce them to a high quality puppy kibble soaked in water. We have had good results feeding Victor Hi Pro Plus and Fromm Puppy Gold. We also supplement with K9 Puppy Gold formula to be sure they're getting plenty of quality nutrition as they transition into a solid diet. By seven to eight weeks old, they are eating solid puppy kibble and will be ready to leave soon. Our puppies are generally able to leave just after eight weeks old, no sooner. We might keep puppies for an additional week or so if we think it would be beneficial for them. We want them well adjusted by the time they're ready to go so that the transition into their new home is as easy as possible for them and the new owners. At about eight weeks old, they will have their first vaccination. We generally do at home vaccinations instead of taking them into the vet. Our vaccines are shipped to us directly by one day air and arrive in a cooler so there is no risk of them being compromised or ineffective. Because of the risk of exposure to diseases or illness such as parvo or kennel cough while at the vet, we feel it is safest to avoid taking them in if at all possible. At only seven to eight weeks old, their immune systems are not fully developed which makes it much more risky for them if they were to be exposed to something during a vet visit. Since that is where all the sick pets go, we like to keep them safe at home. After their first vaccination and final deworming is completed, they are ready to head off to their new homes!
Tails and Dew Claws
We do not and will not dock tails or remove dew claws unless there is some sort of abnormality in a rare instance where the puppy would benefit from removal. Australian Cattle Dogs should always have a tail. The breed standard calls for an intact tail of good brush that stops near the hock. Not only are their tails beautiful, but they are used for communication and act as a rudder and counterbalance which helps them do their jobs properly, especially during tight turns and maneuvers. Dew claws are also important as they're used for gripping and traction. Comparable to our thumbs, there are blood vessels, nerves, and bone and as long as they're attached properly, removing them can do more harm than good. There is also some new research coming out that suggests dew claw removal may contribute to early onset arthritis and pain.
We test our dogs for PRA-PRCD, PLL, and DM before breeding. Their results are each listed on the pages with their individual information. All puppies produced by us will always be A (clear) or B (carrier), never C (affected) so you don't have to worry about your puppy going blind later in life from PLL, PRA-PRCD, or RCD4. You will also not have to worry about your puppy suffering from DM (Degenerative Myelopathy) which is an inherited spinal degenerative disorder similar to Lou Gehrig's disease in people. Our goal is to produce the healthiest puppies possible.
Our puppies come with two price options. Pet only puppies are sold with limited AKC registration for $1,000. Puppies with show and breeding rights are sold with full AKC registration for $1,500. Puppies sold with full AKC registration are only available to approved homes so let us know right away if that's what you're interested in. Puppies come with an AKC registration application and we require that the KW Farms name starts at the beginning of their registered name.
Reserving A Puppy
Planning for your new puppy starts with contacting us and filling out our "Puppy Application" above. We keep a waiting list for those interested in future litters. Once we have your application and know you'd be a good match for one of our puppies, we will contact you as breedings take place and puppies arrive and become available. We begin accepting half down, non-refundable deposits after a litter is born. At around five weeks old, you're able to pick your puppy. We will allow choices to be made in the order that deposits were received. For example, first deposit (first choice), second deposit (second choice), and so on. Some people like to choose their puppy soon after birth, but we prefer you wait until the puppies are five to six weeks old because they don't really start showing their temperaments and color until then. By that time, you'll have a fairly good idea on what their adult color will look like and their little individual personalities will start coming out as well. Ultimately you will be able to decide which puppy is right for you, but knowing their personalities a little bit will help us provide as much information possible on each puppy so you can make a confident choice. Your puppy will be ready to leave after eight weeks old. The remaining balance will then be due upon pick up in cash only.
We strive for weekly photo and/or video updates as the puppies grow. They grow and change quickly and it's amazing to see what a difference one week can make. We will post photo updates on the Puppies page of our website as well as on our Facebook page here: KW Farms Australian Cattle Dogs Be sure to give us a like and click the "Follow" and "See First" options to get all updates.
Puppy Pick Up
Once your puppy reaches eight weeks old, they are usually ready to go home! We do not offer shipping at this time so expect to pick up your puppy at our farm in Wapato, Washington 98951. We will give you our address privately and arrange a day and time that works for both of us. All of our puppies come with a health record (vaccination/deworming/weight history), parent health testing results, their pedigree, a bag of kibble, and a goody bag. Puppies advertised with AKC registration will come with their AKC registration application. Please be sure when coming to get your puppy that you leave any dogs you may already have at home, wear a clean pair of shoes and clothes, and wash your hands before leaving. This is for biosecurity reasons. We don't want to take any unnecessary risks exposing our dogs and puppies to outside germs. Lastly, we accept cash only on pick up days. No checks or credit cards accepted, sorry.
We will be posting our health guarantee shortly. Check back soon!
